Former Aston Villa winger Charles N’Zogbia is set to get another chance to impress Sunderland manager David Moyes when he takes the field against French side Montpellier HSC on Saturday, according to a report.
The Shields Gazette report that the former Manchester United boss Moyes is weighing up his options for the midfielder as the club have yet to secure any signings this summer.
It is said the club’s new manager and new chief executive Martin Bain have been working hard to secure new deals as they look to improve the squad after Premier League survival last season.
Recently departed manager Sam Allardyce played a big part in their Premier League status this term, which saw him take on the England job, before giving N’Zogbia a chance at the club.
The 30-year-old was released by Villa earlier in the summer and has since been training with the Premier League outfit in order to boost his fitness.
The highly-criticised midfielder, who earned a reported £60,000-a-week at Villa but only made two Premier League appearances last season, scored the winning goal against Rotherham on Sunday to boost his chances of a contract.
After making two substitute appearances in his last two pre-season games, Moyes is expected to give the former France international a longer run-out in order to make a decision on N’Zogbia’s future.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, manager Roberto Di Matteo has sanctioned a loan deal for this £10 million midfielder.
