Aston Villa are interested in Crystal Palace midfield duo Jordan Mutch and Joe Ledley in addition to Mile Jedinak, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claim that the Championship side are keeping tabs on the Selhurst Park trio as they assess how to strengthen a team that has lost its opening two matches of the season.

Mutch is a former England under-21 international who has struggled for game time at Palace since his £4.25 million move from QPR in January 2015.

The 24-year-old only made seven starts in 20 Premier League appearances last term as Alan Pardew’s side narrowly avoided relegation.

The Mail claim Pardew is looking to offload Mutch and Jedinak, who was replaced as captain by centre-back Scott Dann for the forthcoming Premier League season.

A former Birmingham City youngster, Mutch has winning Championship experience with Cardiff City.

The midfielder won promotion with the Welsh club in 2012-13, including netting on seven occasions during their debut Premier League campaign.

Roberto Di Matteo called for new signings to strengthen the squad in the wake of Villa’s 3-1 defeat to Luton on Wednesday and the outspoken club owner Tony Xia could not hide his anger following the performance from the recently relegated side.

The Chinese tycoon hinted at a fire sale as he claimed “some players are not worth being given chance” on his personal Twitter account.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, Xia has intervened to prevent an emerging player from the club joining a rival after he had undergone a medical.
