Norwich have tabled a £13million bid for Fulham striker Ross McCormack who is a transfer target for Championship rivals Aston Villa, according to a report.

The Birmingham Mail are reporting that Alex Neil has sanctioned a firm bid offer for the services of the Scotland international as he looks to gain instant promotion after relegation last term.

McCormack has been a target for a number of Championship clubs including Aston Villa and Newcastle in recent weeks.

Robert Di Matteo is in the market for at least two strikers and will now decide whether to match or beat Norwich’s bid.

McCormack netted on 21 occasions last term for the Craven Cottage club.

The 29-year-old has a £15million release clause after extending his contract in January until 2020.

It has been reported that Fulham may be willing to cash in on their player for a price lower than his release clause, even though £2.5million was added to the clause when he signed the contract extension.

But, despite the speculation it seems Norwich have made the first move for the highly-rated forward as the new Championship season draws closer.

Norwich found the net on 39 occasions last season as they were relegated into the second-tier, alongside Villa who were the league’s lowest scorers with 27.

As reported by Football Insider, Villa owner Tony Xia recently revealed that the club are in the market for two new strikers before their season kicks-off on August 7 against Sheffield Wednesday.

In other Aston Villa news, after failing to sign their number one target, Marseille have turned their attention to another Villa midfielder.
