Everton are lining up a move for Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi, according to a report.

Manchester City are edging closer to signing Everton’s starlet John Stones in a £50+million deal, and the Toffees are already eyeing up his replacement.

The Sun, citing reports in Portugal, claim that centre-back Martins Indi is a £12.5million target and that he is keen on a move to Goodison Park.

Everton will be keen to resolve the transfer business quickly if Stones does move on, as it would leave just two experienced central defenders at the club, Phil Jagielka and Ramiro Funes Mori.

Stones has shown flashes of potential throughout a tumultuous season for Everton, playing in 41 games in all competitions, but he did not figure for England at Euro 2016 after being omitted in favour of Chris Smalling and Gary Cahill.

Manager Ronald Koeman knows defensive target Martins Indi well having worked with him at Dutch side Feyenoord, a club where the defender made over 100 appearances.

Ex-Feyenoord manager Koeman made Martins Indi a regular starter in his team, and is now keen on a reunion.

Martins Indi joined current club FC Porto in 2014 and is predominately used as a centre-back, but does have the ability to be used as an emergency full-back.

The 24-year-old is currently contracted with Porto until 2018 and was an important player for them last season, making 34 appearances in all competitions.

He has also enjoyed success at national level with Holland and was part of the team that finished third  in the 2014 World Cup.

Martins Indi featured six times during the tournament and was a key player alongside central-defensive partners Ron Vlaar and Stefan de Vrij.

In other Everton transfer news, their major target could be heading for the exit door after crunch talks with Jose Mourinho.
