Leeds have been named alongside several Championship clubs as interested in Arsenal defender Rob Holding, according to a report.
News outlet HITC has claimed that the Yorkshire giants alongside league rivals Norwich, Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa are eyeing the 21-year-old.
The young centre-back has featured just three times for the Arsenal senior team in the last two months after joining from League One side Bolton in the summer for a £2.5million fee.
It is now believed that Arsene Wenger is looking for Holding to get some regular first team action after moving down the Gunners pecking order.
It is reported that the north London side are ready to send Holding out in January on loan, which has alerted Leeds to the youngster.
Garry Monk’s team currently boast two strong centre-backs in Kyle Bartley and Pontus Jansson.
However, with Liam Cooper the only senior defender behind the duo, Monk may be looking for extra depth in January.
The Yorkshire giants are currently in a high fifth place in the Championship table and the club will be keen to ensure their form doesn’t drop at any stage in the second half of the season given the tightness of the top sides.
Defender Holding has already played 26 times in England’s second tier during his career and he could prove a very worthwhile signing.
Football Insider verdict:
It is unlikely that Holding would displace centre-back stars Jansson or Bartley, but he would provide fantastic depth to Monk’s outfit. Leeds have so far been extremely fortunate that both defenders haven’t had a prolonged run out of the team due to injury or suspension. However, if one drops out of the team for an extended period the Yorkshire giants’ promotion charge could be severely curtailed. Wenger trusted Holding enough at the start of the Premier League campaign to start him when his defence suffered an injury crisis and the player clearly has some ability. Therefore, Leeds should do all that they can to secure Holding’s loan for the all-important second half of the season.
