Liverpool will make concerted efforts to sign Sadio Mane from Southampton in the next seven days, according to a report.
The Telegraph claim that the Merseysiders are intent on prising Mane from St Mary’s Stadium as they continue to raid the south coast for their transfer targets.
Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne have all moved from Southampton to Merseyside in the last two years and Mane could become the fifth player to follow an increasingly well-trodden path.
It is reported that Liverpool are seeking to complete a £30million deal as they plan an imminent meeting with their Premier League rivals to thrash out an agreement.
The Telegraph claim Jurgen Klopp’s team made a formal approach to Southampton for Mane several weeks ago and negotiations have been continuing ever since.
However, the Saints’ valuation of the 24-year-old could be a sticking point as The Sun claim Southampton are only willing to listen to offers around the £40million mark before they would consider parting with their prized asset.
Mane has staked his claim in the last two years to be one of the outstanding wide players in the Premier League and would provide Liverpool with a much-needed goal threat from an attacking midfield position.
He scored 13 goals and supplied nine assists from 40 matches in his debut campaign and followed it up with an even more impressive 15 goals and nine assists from 43 matches in 2015-16.
The Senegal international has two years left on his current deal allowing Southampton to command a significant fee.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the Merseysiders have tabled a £7million bid for a Premier League wonderkid.
