Liverpool are eyeing a blockbuster move for Athletic Bilbao winger Inaki Williams, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish media outlet Don Balon claim the 22-year-old has emerged as a top target for the Merseysiders in the January transfer window.

It is said that Williams’ £44.5million release clause would not be an impediment to Liverpool and that manager Jurgen Klopp will come openly to the market in December.

The Premier League high flyers have money to spend in the winter window and have cash left over from a summer in which their net transfer spend was virtually zero.

Klopp swooped for Sadio Mane from Southampton and the Senegalese wide man has dazzled since heading to Merseyside in a £35million deal.

Georginio Wijnaldum also joined for around £25million from Newcastle although he has settled into a central midfield role at Anfield.

Williams signed a new five-and-a-half-year deal with Bilbao before the last January transfer window came to an end, hiking his release clause up to £44.5million.

The former Spain Under-21 international has scored 17 goals and supplied nine assists in 73 matches for the senior team after excelling for the B side, where he bagged 21 goals in just 32 appearances.

Williams was also awarded his first senior Spain cap in May of this year.

In other Liverpool transfer news, Klopp has claimed this Anfield summer signing has been “outstanding” for the last two years.
