Liverpool are interested in signing Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi, according to a report.
French outlet Foot Mercato claim that the Merseyside club are keen on a January move for the 22-year-old.
The report details that French club Marseille are also interested in his signature, but he would prefer to stay in England.
Amavi is currently one of Villa’s best defenders and is trying to help the Midlands club secure promotion in the Championship.
The left-back moved to Villa Park in 2015 and became an instant hit with the fans after a good start, but ruptured his cruciate ligament playing for France’s Under-21s in November 2015.
He had to watch on from the sidelines for the rest of the season and watched his side slip to relegation from the Premier League.
The defender finally made his return in August 2016 against Luton in the EFL Cup and has established himself as a regular under Steve Bruce.
Amavi has made 17 appearances this season across all competitions and has completed 90 minutes in each of the club’s last nine games.
Football Insider verdict:
Liverpool should consider a January bid for the Aston Villa defender, who showed great signs of quality before picking up a long-term injury last season. The young defender could be the perfect answer to Jurgen Klopp’s defence and the Reds are in desperate need of a new left-back. James Milner has done a great job in the full-back position, but is not a long-term solution, while Alberto Moreno has failed to deliver at Anfield. Amavi is an exciting prospect who proved in a brief spell that he is good enough for the Premier League. Klopp is keen to have a youthful balance to his Liverpool side and 22-year-old Amavi could be a good fit for the Merseyside club.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the club are planning a January bid for a Brazilian attacker.
