Liverpool have sent scout Kiko Espinar to Barcelona to watch the academy players in order to follow the evolution of a number of players, according to a report.
Spanish publication Sport has claimed that the Reds are watching the academy, which has produced some of football’s biggest stars such as Xavi, Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta.
Although it has not been identified as to whom manager Jurgen Klopp is targeting, several of the youngsters will have impressed with the Barcelona B team sat at the top of the Spanish second division with 22 points from 11 matches.
Liverpool have a famous academy themselves, bringing through players such as Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Raheem Sterling.
It has also became apparent that Klopp is looking to further bring through more academy players as he handed starts to young duo Ovie Ejaria and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the EFL Cup against Tottenham last week.
The Reds have never won the Premier League, but currently sat in third place and joint top with Manchester City. Klopp could be looking to establish some solid foundations at the club in order to bring more success to Merseyside.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the Reds are targeting Southampton left-back Sam McQueen.
