Newcastle striker Ivan Toney has agreed a loan move to League One side Shrewsbury Town, according to a report.

Football website HITC claim that the League One club have moved quickly for his services after a number of clubs showed an interest in the 20-year-old striker.

It is said that the terms of the deal for Toney to move to the Midlands outfit have been settled although the report does not disclose the length of the loan.

Toney signed for the Tyneside club last summer from Northampton Town on a long-term contract, but after four appearances the 20-year-old has been sent out on loan for a second time.

The 20-year-old scored two goals in 21 appearances in all competitions for Barnsley last season as they gained promotion to the second-tier via the play-offs.

It is said the youngster would have had limited game time at the north-east club, and manager Rafael Benitez has given his approval for the youngster to head out on loan for some more experience, so he can push for a first-team spot in the future.

Benitez currently has new £10million signing Dwight Gayle, Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrović all vying for a first-team forward spot, which has limited Toney’s chances of playing regularly.

After relegation last season Newcastle are aiming for instant promotion back to the Premier League, but gotoff to a bad start in their Championship campaign with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Fulham on Friday evening.

In other Newcastle transfer news, the club have no intention of cashing in on this striker.
