Aston Villa are interested in signing Icelandic midfielder Aron Gunnarsson, according to a report.

The Sun claim owner Tony Xia has sanctioned the signings of right-back Ritchie De Leat, striker Patrick Bamford and one midfielder from Gunnarsson and Mile Jedinak.

Iceland captain Gunnarsson was the long-throw expert at Euro 2016, which helped knock England out of the tournament.

The Sun state that the Bluebirds midfielder is struggling to nail down a regular spot with the Championship side after the arrival of central-midfielder Emyr Huws on Friday.

It is said that if Aston Villa fail to land their preferred target, Palace midfielder Jedinak, they will turn their attention to Gunnarsson.

Meanwhile, Bleacher Report transfer expert Dean Jones has stated on his personal Twitter account that manager Roberto Di Matteo is eyeing a loan move for Chelsea striker Bamford.

Premier League winner Ritchie De Leat is also on the club’s radar after the Championship side conceded three goals at fourth-tier Luton on Wednesday night.

The club recently sealed their fifth summer signing when versatile defender James Chester signed a four-year deal with club from Midland rivals West Brom.

Di Matteo’s men will now prepare for their first home game of the Championship season when they welcome Rotherham to Villa Park.
