Tottenham have seen an offer of over £20million turned down by Real Madrid for midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to a report.
Spanish outlet AS claim that the Spanish giants rejected a £21.9million bid from Spurs for the 23-year-old.
It is understood that Mauricio Pochettino is keen on signing the Croatia international and feels he could play a major role at the north London club.
Meanwhile, the report details that AC Milan, Inter Milan and Napoli are interested in his signature.
Real Madrid are keen to keep the central midfielder next season and it would take a good offer to change their stance.
Kovacic is a two-time Champions League winner and has been a part of the Madrid squad in the past two seasons.
The central midfielder made 39 appearances across all competitions in the last campaign, scoring two goals and supplying three assist in return.
He is recognised for his quality in possession and can play in a variety of midfield positions.
Football Insider verdict:
Spurs are yet to make a signings in the summer window and should only be looking to bringKova in players that can challenge for a starting line-up position. Kovacic is certainly someone that could do that and provide a different dimension to the likes of Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier. The deep-lying playmaker has proven his qualities at Madrid, but is yet to cement a starting spot. The 23-year-old would benefit from regular football and Pochettino is keen on signing him. He has been compared to club and international teammate Luka Modric and Spurs fans should be extremely excited if he arrives in the Premier League for the first time.
