Tottenham are in talks to sign Celta Vigo central midfielder Pape Cheikh Diop and Ajax centre-back Davinson Sanchez, according to a report.
ESPN FC claim that Spurs are close to making Colombian defender Sanchez their first signing of the summer for a club-record £35million.
It is said that the deal would eclipse the £30m Spurs spent on both Erik Lamela in 2013 and Moussa Sissoko on deadline day last year.
ESPN FC report that the Londoners are also in negotiations with La Liga club Celta over signing Diop, who has a £25million release clause in the contract he signed earlier this year.
Spurs are also still keen on signing Everton playmaker Ross Barkley, who they have been linked with all summer.
The Evening Standard claim the Merseysiders have placed a £50million price tag on the head of Barkley and no bids have yet been forthcoming.
Sanchez, 21, is a Colombia international who joined Ajax in 2016 for £3.8million.
Spurs are yet to buy anyone so far this summer, a situation causing concern for fans and players, judging by the comments of defender Danny Rose.
Mauricio Pochettino has continued to insist Tottenham would be active before the 31 August transfer deadline.
Football Insider verdict:
The pressure is on the Spurs top brass to strengthen a squad that appears worryingly short of numbers ahead of the new campaign. With Rose going public with his fears, a stance that will surely be shared by many of his teammates, the club’s transfer policy is firmly under the microscope. It is questionable whether the signings of two youngsters who Rose would have to Google cuts the mustard. Proven stars are needed, as well as potential ones. Barkley would be able to hit the ground running and make a fairly immediate impact in Pochettino’s side. It could be some time before Sanchez and Diop do the same.
