Argentine striker Jonathan Calleri is close to signing for West Ham on a season-long loan, according to a report.

Calleri, who has spent the last six months on loan at Sao Paulo, has been linked with a move to Tottenham, Inter Milan and Sevilla.

But Brazilian news outlet Esporte claim the former Boca Juniors striker will sign a deal with the Hammers in the next few days.

The 22-year-old has been likened to West Ham fans favourite Carlos Tevez after an impressive recent spell of form, and is becoming increasingly known for his technical ability.

Calleri, who is yet to make any Argentina appearances, has attracted Premier League interest since scoring 21 goals in 53 matches for former club Boca Juniors.

He has since been loaned to Sao Paulo for six months via Uruguayan club Deportivo Maldonado and 10 matches for the Brazilian side in 2016 have yielded an impressive eight goals.

Bilic has been in the hunt for a proven goalscorer all summer, and has been linked with the likes of Christian Benteke, Michy Batshuayi, Alexandre Lacazette, Theo Walcott and Carlos Bacca as well as a sensational East London return for Tevez.

West Ham signed 20-year-old Ashley Fletcher from Manchester United last week but he is not the senior front man that Slaven Bilic is targeting to immediately strengthen the first team.

Nevertheless have already been busy in the transfer window and have made six signings, including Fletcher and Gokhan Tore in the last seven days.

In other West Ham transfer news, a deal for this Hammers attacker looks to be off due to manager Slaven Bilic’s valuation of the player.
