Georginio Wijnaldum is desperate for a move to Champions League club Tottenham, according to a report.
The Mirror claim the Newcastle attacking midfielder will beg the club to allow him to move as he hopes not to be priced out of a transfer to London.
As reported by Football Insider, Tottenham have made their move for the wantaway player following the Magpies’ relegation.
The Dutch international signed for £14. million last summer from PSV Eindhoven, but the Tyneside club are demanding £25million for their player.
That is a sum likely to be beyond what Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is willing to pay, which could lead to an extended spell of negotiations.
Nonetheless, it is said the London club are interested in the attacking midfielder’s signature and that the player himself is keen to move and play in the Champions League.
The 25-year-old was a shining light in a wretched Premier League campaign for the North-East club, scoring 11 goals in the competition.
Newcastle manager Rafa Bentiez now faces a fight to keep his star player as the club look for instant promotion back to the Premier League.
The versatile midfielder has four-years remaining on his Newcastle contract and it is said the former PSV player is prepared to talk to club chiefs as he persuades them to soften their stance on the winger.
In other Newcastle news, a senior striker has confirmed he will be back to play on Tyneside hours after quitting the club.
