Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit of Polish sensation Piotr Zielinski by sending a delegation to scout him on Sunday, Football Insider sources understand.

The Merseysiders also kept tabs on emerging Argentine star Leandro Paredes as they watched Sunday’s Serie A clash between Genoa and Empoli.

The pair are on the radar of the Premier League giants as they step up plans to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window.

A Italy source has told Football Insider that Liverpool are compiling dossiers on Zielinski and Paredes, both 21, following their encouraging displays this season while on loan at Empoli.

Zielinski, whose parent club is Udinese, has been one of the stand-out central midfielders in Serie A this season after establishing himself in the Empoli side.

The £12million-rated Poland international has made 26 league appearances this season for the 11th-placed team and weighed in with a highly creditable three goals and five assists from midfield.

Paredes, who is rated in the £7million bracket, is principally a defensive midfielder although he can also play in a more attacking role.

The former Argentina Under-17 international has also been a regular for Empoli during his season-long loan from Roma.
