Rob Green has dished out praise for Marco Silvestri despite the Leeds goalkeeper providing strong competition for the number one spot.

Green currently holds the position at Elland Road but recent performances from Silvestri has added pressure on the former England international.

However, Leeds’ number one only had praise for his teammate and admitted it was good for the team to have him performing so well.

“He’s a proven keeper at this level and I haven’t been surprised by the performances he’s put in,” Green told TV Yorkshire.

“I don’t think anyone else has. His strengths and attributes are there for everyone to see as a keeper and you want keepers to be competing and doing well.”

Silvestri produced heroics during Leeds’ penalty shoot-out victory against Norwich last month and made a number of impressive stops in each of his three EFL Cup appearances.

The 25 year-old is yet to make an appearance in the Championship this season, with Green dominating the role between the sticks.

However, the Leeds keeper has made 88 league appearances for the club in the past and has demonstrated maturity for the Championship club since joining in 2014.

Green is expected to start for Leeds during their clash against Norwich on Saturday, making his 16th league appearance of the season so far.

He joined from QPR on a free this summer and has been in good form for Garry Monk’s side so far, keeping five clean sheets in 16 appearances.

In other Leeds news, Garry Monk has claimed it would be impossible for this attacker to play for his country after a “risky” international call-up.
