The club’s chief Tony Xia appointed Bruce and handed him the tough task of guiding a team two points off the relegation zone to a play-off place at the end of the campaign.
TV pundit Savage has backed his former Blues manager to succeed at the recently-relegated Villa Park club.
“Bruce will be a perfect fit for Villa because he is old school and all the players will start with a clean slate,” Savage wrote in his Mirror column.
“If you cross him, you’ll find he doesn’t suffer fools gladly – but he’s also a manager who makes his players want to do well for him.”
Bruce left Hull City in the summer after guiding the Tigers to promotion via the play-offs last term. The fourth promotion in the former centre-back’s managerial career.
Villa are currently 19th in the championship table with ten points from 11 games, having won just a single game this term, drawing a league high of seven and losing three.
Walter Zenga’s Wolves side travel to Villa Park on Saturday evening for a Midlands clash, in what is expected to be a tightly fought contest.
In other Aston Villa team news, this TalkSport pundit has claimed the club’s dressing room was divided into three under former manager Roberto Di Matteo.
