Celtic are eyeing a move to bring in recent Liverpool loanee Steven Caulker from Queens Park Rangers, according to a report.

Scottish publication The Daily Record citing London publication Get West London claim that the former Liverpool boss could make a move for QPR’s 24-year-old defender.

The strong centre-back spent the second part of the recently completed season at Liverpool and Rodgers has also been linked to his former club with moves for Andre Wisdom, Joe Gomez and Joe Allen.

It is understood that Loftus Road boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink would love to keep the defender, but his £30,000-a-week wages could mean the London born player may leave the club this summer.

Celtic are looking light on numbers at the back with Erik Sviatchenko the only fit senior centre-half as Dedryk Boyata and Jozo Simunovic recover from injuries while Charlie Mulgrew is still deciding over a new deal at the club.

Caulker enjoyed a successful season with Rodgers during the 2011-12 season while on loan at Swansea.

The former Tottenham youngster partnered Ashley Williams to form a formidable defensive duo during the Welsh side’s first season in the Premier League.

He made 26 appearances for the Swans and the spell brought him to the attention of the English national team where he was capped under Roy Hodgson and scored on his debut against Sweden in a 4-2 defeat, although he is yet to add to the cap.

Caulker was once considered a big prospect and Celtic could be the right club for him to kick start his career again after suffering two relegation’s with Cardiff and QPR.
