Brendan Rodgers has revealed Patrick Roberts will be assessed on Thursday following the injury he sustained in Celtic’s 2-1 win against Astana.
The youngster was brought off 32 minutes into the Champions League qualifier clash at Parkhead on Wednesday night after injuring himself while defending a set-piece.
The former Liverpool boss admitted afterwards that the on-loan Manchester City youngster had a problem but more will be known in 24 hours.
“It was a blow for us. He felt a bit tight and we’ll assess it more tomorrow,” said Rodgers as quoted by the club’s Twitter page.
Brendan Rodgers praised Roberts for his performance against Astana in the first leg of the tie and the winger will be a major loss if the injury is serious.
Roberts joined Celtic on an 18-month loan deal from City at the start of the year and scored six goals in 11 appearances in the league last season.
Celtic get their league campaign underway on Sunday against Hearts and Rodgers will be hoping that Roberts can feature in the squad.
The former Liverpool boss will be looking to keep the Scottish Premiership crown at Celtic Park going into next season, as fierce city-rivals Rangers return to Scotland’s top flight.
In other Celtic team news, Brendan Rodgers has claimed Leigh Griffiths is worth £15million and shares similar attributes with Luis Suarez.
