Santi Cazorla has urged Arsenal to tie Hector Bellerin down to a new contract and build the team around the “right-back of the future”.
There has been reported interest in the Arsenal defender from some of Europe’s top clubs including Barcelona and Manchester City.
Cazorla acknowledged that the Gunners face a battle to keep Bellerin but said it would be a massive mistake to allow his fellow Spaniard to leave after recent performances have demonstrated his value to the team.
“We’ll see [what happens.] It is clear that Hector [Bellerin] is the right-back of the future,” Cazorla exclusively told IBTimes.
“You could see in the victory over Swansea how good he is. He was all over the place and never stopped running.
“For Arsenal it would be a massive mistake to let him go. It is obvious that many teams want him. There has been talk about Manchester City and Barcelona.
“He is a player with great potential and I am sure he will also be a key part of the future of the Spanish national team.”
The 21 year-old made his brea-through into the first team during the 2014-15 season when he made his league debut against Hull in August and has since become a key player.
Bellerin has been one of Arsenal’s most impressive performers in the early stages of the Premier League season, helping the Gunners’ reach the top spot, level on points with Manchester City, after eight games.
He’s already made ten appearances this season, including both European Cup ties against Basel and Paris Saint-Germain.
In the latest Arsenal news, former legend and Invincible claims he could land his first managerial job within three weeks.
