Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote could move to the Russian Premier League with Anzhi Makhachkala in a £1.8million deal, according to a report.

The 30-year-old Ivory Coast international almost joined Turkish giants Galatasaray before reportedly failing a medical with Jan Olde Riekerink’s side.

The Daily Mail now claim that the Russian side are keen on signing the former FC Twente midfielder for a fee of £1.8million.

The report also claims that Tiote’s camp is upset at the claims that their man had failed a medical at Galatasaray. According to them, the two parties were unable to agree terms.

It is said that Burnley and Greek champions Olympiakos are also still interested in the combative midfielder.

Tiote, who signed for the Magpies in 2010, is set to leave the Toon with just 12 months remaining on his current deal.

Tiote has made over 150 appearances for the club, but struggled for consistency and fitness since sustaining a serious knee injury in February 2015.

Newcastle manager Rafa Banitez has allowed 16 senior players to leave St. James’ Park this summer, including the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Daryl Janmaat and Andros Townsend.

In other Newcastle transfer news, this midfielder could be set to leave after this Premier League side made a last-minute bid.
