Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has revealed that mentality is not the problem after Roberto Di Matteo’s side earned a late draw against Newcastle.
New signing Aaron Tshibola scored in the 88th minute, heading in a corner at the back post past goalkeeper Matz Sels to cancel out Tommy Elphick’s first-half own goal.
Xia described his new side as “top class” on his personal Twitter account, as well as revealing that he does not see Villa’s new-look squad as suffering from a mentality problem.
The Championship giants have lost points this season to goals after the 85th minute on four occasions, which has seen them lose to Sheffield Wednesday, and draw against Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield and Brentford.
However, the late equaliser against Rafa Benitez’s side is of little solace as the Midlands outfit continue to struggle at the foot of the Championship table despite bringing in almost £60million worth of talent this summer.
The likes of Ross McCormack and Jonathan Kodjia have been unable to provide their new side with a winning formula, as Di Matteo’s side sit in 17th place with just one win in 10 league and cup encounters.
Villa travel to Barnsley on Tuesday night before facing Preston at Deepdale on Saturday as they look to generate some momentum before the international break.
