Former Real Madrid full-back Alvaro Arbeloa has revealed his delight at making his West Ham debut, as they battled to a 1-0 victory over Accrington Stanley on Wednesday night.
Slaven Bilic’s side managed to book their place in the EFL Cup last 16 thanks to Dimitri Payet’s last gasp winner in the 96th minute.
Arbeloa, who played the full match, revealed on his personal Twitter account that he was “extremely happy” to make his West Ham debut.
The 33-year-old signed for the East London outfit during deadline day, after being released by Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid earlier in the summer.
The Hammers join the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United in the last 16 of the EFL Cup, but will face a touch task to qualify for the quarter finals after being drawn against Chelsea at the London Stadium.
Arbeloa is set to make way for first-choice right-back Sam Byram to start against Southampton on Sunday, as Bilic’s side look to secure their first domestic win in four games after losing to the likes of Watford, Manchester City and West Brom.
