Sir Alex Ferguson has named Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi as a player who has impressed him so far this season after a number of assured performances.
Iwobi has made 11 appearances for the Gunners this season as his side currently sit level on points at the top of the table with Manchester City and Liverpool.
Ferguson oversaw the growth of a number of young footballers during his time as Manchester United manager but revealed he was impressed by Iwobi and sees Arsenal as title contenders this season.
“You shouldn’t forget Arsenal. The team is more sturdy. They have got better and more aggressive,” said Ferguson, as reported by The Express.
“I’m impressed with the young boy, Alex Iwobi,” he added.
The 20 year-old has become a regular feature for Arsene Wenger’s side this season and he’s started six of Arsenal’s opening nine league fixtures.
He was also involved in the Gunners’ Champions League victory against Ludogorets and started their other two European clashes against Paris Saint-Germain and FC Basel.
The Nigerian international is yet to get his name on the scoresheet this season, with teammates Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott being the regular scorers.
However, the youngster has notched up three assists in the league and has impressed in the early fixtures, keeping Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lucas Perez out of the side.
He may face a battle for inclusion when Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud fully return to action but has done enough so far to be considered.
