Arsenal have been installed as the bookmakers’ favourites to sign Daniel Sturridge in the January window.

Sky Bet have priced the Gunners at 9/1 to land the Liverpool striker, who has slipped down the pecking order at his club this season.

Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham are 12/1 to prise Sturridge from Anfield and a return to his former club Chelsea is priced at 14/1.

Arsene Wenger’s side have three senior options in attack to choose from during this campaign, with Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Lucas Perez all vying for a starting place.

At this moment in time Chilean Sanchez is winning that battle, with the 27-year-old scoring five goals and providing five assists in nine Premier League and Champions League games.

By contrast England international Sturridge has scored two goals and provided two assists in seven games in all competitions this term.

But he has frequently been ignored as the spearhead in favour of Brazilian playmaker Roberto Firmino.

Birmingham-born Sturridge moved to Anfield from Stamford Bridge in 2013 and has scored 56 goals in 99 appearances for the Merseyside club.

This despite Sturridge missing a lot of football in the last 18 months, due to constant injuries, with the attacker only playing 26 Premier League games in his last two seasons.

Sturridge did feature for his national side at Euro 2016, with the 22-cap forward scoring one goal in France, as Roy Hodgson’s men were knocked out of the competition by minnows Iceland.

In other Arsenal transfer news, this Gunners defender believes he was a risk signing by Arsene Wenger.
