In the buildup to Liverpool’s clash against Manchester United in seven days Sky Sports ran a vote to find the greatest player of the Premier League era from the two sides.

Sky Sports ran the poll on their website after a panel put together a list of 50 stars, with 25 from each club.

As the poll stands on October 10 there are six Manchester United players in the top 10, but former Reds captain Steven Gerrard sits at the top of the pile with 27,000 votes.

Falling behind him in second place is Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo with 22,000 votes, while his current Barcelona rival Luis Suarez is in third, also with 22,000 votes.

Gerrard, 36, now in the MLS with LA Galaxy made his debut for the Reds in 1998, leaving the club in 2015.

He won two FA Cups, the Champions League, UEFA Cup and three League Cups while at the Merseysiders, but he never got his hand on the Premier League title.

However, fans have voted him as their star of the Premier League era between the two sides giving the Reds a small victory before the clash at Anfield next Monday.

The two rivals are in good form in the new campaign with three points separating the pair sat in fourth and sixth respectively.

In other Liverpool news, Philippe Coutinho claims his friendship with Chelsea star Willian is an ‘important’ one and there are no hard feelings between the two.
