Werder Bremen are interested in signing Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre, according to a report.

Sky Sports have claimed on their Transfer Centre Blog (2:37pm) that sources have told them the Bundesliga side are targeting the 30-year-old left-back.

The 85-times capped Honduras international has played two matches for the Hoops this season, but was restricted to a view from the bench in the Scottish giants’ solitary Scottish Premiership match of the new campaign.

He moved to Celtic Park from his home country in 2010 and has spent six years at the club.

The experienced full-back has starred in 235 encounters for the Bhoys winning five Scottish Premiership’s alongside a League Cup victory and two Scottish Cup trophies during his time at the club.

However, young 19-year-old full-back Kieran Tierney is currently occupying the left-back role and the Honduran may see his future elsewhere, with the Scottish giants also looking to the future.

The Hoops beat Hapoel Beer Sheva convincingly on Wednesday evening with a 5-2 victory at home, but Izaguirre didn’t make the 18-man matchday squad.

New manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to build his own Celtic side, as he faces a battle with fierce rivals Rangers this season.

The Northern Irish boss has added six players to his squad, including the formidable Moussa Dembele from Fulham.
