Niall Quinn believes that Romelu Lukaku needs to offer Everton more after his performance against Southampton.

The 23-year-old was unable to help his side slip to a 1-0 away defeat on Sunday in the Premier League.

The striker has not scored in his last three games and failed to create a clear goalscoring chance against the Saints.

Sky Sports pundit Quinn feels that Lukaku has the potential to be Everton’s top player, but goes missing in too many games and was guilty of that against Southampton

“Romelu Lukaku promised to be the main man for Everton this season,” Quinn wrote on Sky Sports. “And on occasions like this – cold away days in November – you’d like to see more, but it didn’t happen for him (against Southampton)”.

Lukaku has made a steady start this season and scored seven goals in his opening 13 games across all competitions.

The Belgian international is regarded as the club’s first-choice striker and is under pressure to score regularly, with the Toffees spending £28million for him in 2014 as he Chelsea.

His best moment this season came in the 3-0 away victory at Sunderland in the Premier League as he scored a second-half hat-trick within 11 minutes.

Lukaku’s seven league goals mean he is just three short of golden boot frontrunners Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero, but he has struggled in several games this season despite his clinical finishing.

The forward should benefit from having wingers Yannick Bolasie, Kevin Mirallas, Aaron Lennon and Gerard Deulofeu as his supplies.

He will want hope to return to top form in the club’s home match against Manchester United on Sunday and add to his tally of 68 goals in 140 appearances for the Merseyside club.
