David Prutton has tipped Aston Villa to overcome Burton in their Championship clash and highlighted the importance of their striker Jonathan Kodjia.

Villa host their Midlands rivals on Boxing Day and will be hoping to close the six-point gap to the play-off positions.

Steve Bruce’s side won their last game 1-0 against QPR, with Kodjia scoring the decisive goal in the 75th minute.

The 27-year-old scored his powerful low shot and has been one of the club’s best performers this season, but he did completed a £15million move from Bristol City in the summer transfer window.

Sky Sports pundit Prutton has praised the impact of Kodjia and has backed Villa to record a narrow 2-1 victory against Burton.

“Villa have been like Jekyll and Hyde in recent weeks but they managed to get the victory at QPR, thanks to their star striker Jonathan Kodjia who was absolutely fantastic,” Prutton told Sky Sports. “Despite losing two of their last four, I fancy Villa to see off Burton’s challenge.”

Villa are still hopeful of achieving promotion this season and sealing an automatic return to the top flight.

The Midlands giants were dumped into the Championship after a poor campaign and have already sacked Roberto Di Matteo this season.

Bruce has managed to improve results and they are still trying to bridge the gap to the promotion places.

Kodjia has been a standout performer this season and has scored eight goals in 21 appearances, with all of them coming in the league.

The forward will hope to continue his form into the next few matches and they host Leeds just three days after the Burton clash.
