Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing up a new centre-back and attacking midfielder for Tottenham in the final weeks of the summer window, according to a report.

Sky Sports have claimed on their website that Pochettino has identified the two priority positions to strengthen as he plans to add to the signings of Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama.

It is said that Spurs’ recruitment team are “actively looking” for a right-sided centre-back and a young attacking midfielder with potential to improve.

Pochettino has previously stated that Tottenham would look to sign players familiar with the Premier League if they can get them for the right price.

Spurs have been strongly linked in recent days with Georginio Wijnaldum but it has been reported that Newcastle are holding out for at least £25million for the Dutchman.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy believes the quoted figure is way too high for a player who was recently relegated to the Championship and the club have shortlisted two back-up options as an alternative to Wijnaldum, 25.

Pochettino is also tracking FC Mainz star Yunus Malli. The Turkey international, 24, is a long-term target of Pochettino and he was even a guest at White Hart Lane last season.

Winger Soufiane Boufal, who plays for Lille, is also an option for Tottenham on the back of his fine 2015-16 campaign, in which he scored 11 goals in 29 league games for the club.

Wijnaldum also grabbed 11 league goals last season, albeit in 38 top-flight appearances, and is keen to leave Newcastle just 12 months after his arrival from PSV Eindhoven for £14.5million.

Spurs turned their attention to Wijnaldum after abandoning their pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze, who has agreed to re-join former club Borussia Dortmund.

Pochettino has already taken his summer spending beyond the £30million mark after signing forward Janssen for £18.8million, and midfield enforcer Wanyama from Southampton for around £12million last month.

In other Tottenham transfer news, the club are keeping close tabs on a highly rated Holland central midfielder.
