Mohammed Elneny and Francis Coquelin start for Arsenal against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon and fans on Twitter were disappointed with their selection.

The majority of fans were disappointed with the team selection as they feel the two midfielders don’t add any attacking threat to the Gunners line-up.

Fans want a reaction after a miserable 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough at the Emirates last Saturday.

They think that Elneny and Coquelin are too slow and uncreative in the middle of the park, with first-team regular Santi Cazorla injured and Granit Xhaka suspended.

One fan even stated that he would have preferred Jack Wilshere in the middle of the park, with the England international out on loan to fellow Premier League outfit Bournemouth.

Nonetheless, the Arsenal faithful were in agreement that they did not like manager Arsene Wenger’s selection of Elneny and Coquelin for this away fixture that they see as a must-win.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Egyptian international Elneny has played five league games for the north London club this season, starting two fixtures.

France international Coquelin has played seven encounters, starting five, including the goalless draw against Middlesbrough in their last Premier League game.

In other Arsenal team news, former striker Alan Smith has highlighted one problem for the Gunners in their challenge for the Premier League title.
