Former Liverpool player and manager Graeme Souness has claimed that Liverpool are as good as anyone when on the front foot, and possibly even the best.
The Reds have the joint best ‘goals for’ tally in the league with 24 from 10 fixtures, which only league leaders Manchester City are able to equal.
They currently sit in third place on the same amount of points as City and Arsenal (23) and Souness believes that the Merseysiders attack is up there with the best.
“When they are on the front foot, they are fabulous,” started Souness speaking on TalkSport. “On the front foot, they are as good as anyone – maybe the best – right now. But when the game changes, when you don’t dominate from start to finish, you have got to sense that.
“Maybe the wide midfield players have to play a wee bit narrower, the full-backs don’t wander, and you have got to sense that. It doesn’t have to come from the manager. And I see Liverpool right now and think, is that a fast forward gear from the first minute right to the very end of the game?
“They look a wee bit vulnerable at times when they don’t dominate the game.”
The Reds continued their good form in front of goal in their most recent league fixture against Crystal Palace.
They scored four goals in a 4-2 victory at Selhurst Park, which saw four different goal scorers in Emre Can, Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino.
Liverpool have impressed without having an out and out scorer as they have Philippe Coutinho and Firmino on five goals each in all competitions, while three players trailing just behind with four goals.
In other Liverpool news, BBC pundit Garth Crooks has compared this Liverpool ace to Paul Gascoigne.
