Hamburg striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga has been spotted having breakfast with Leeds United players ahead of their clash against Preston later today (Saturday).

Reports in Germany, including from regional newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt, have claimed that the Championship giants are close to signing the forward, 25.

Intriguingly, Lasogga was sat with the United squad as they relaxed with their families at the Clayton Hotel in Leeds city centre ahead of this afternoon’s home league fixture against Preston.

Leeds supporter Rick Walkington posted a series of messages on his personal Twitter account this morning in which he explained that Lasogga was dining with fellow German Felix Wiedwald.

Wiedwald was joined in the dining room by Leeds teammates Ezgjan Alioski and Caleb Ekuban, who are all set to be in the matchday squad for the team’s second league fixture of the season.

Lasogga’s presence is a clear sign that Leeds are working on a deal to sign him before the transfer window cut-off later this month.

The former Germany Under-21 international is currently carrying a minor injury and is not training after being frozen out of the Hamburg set-up.

This comes after German newspaper Bild reported that Leeds have registered their interest in signing Lasogga and that Hamburg are willing to subsidise what could be a loan deal for one of their top earners, who has a salary of £59,000-a-week.

The Yorkshire club’s reported interest comes at a time when they are fending off huge interest in striker Chris Wood.
