Eric Dier trolled Dele Alli on Twitter on Tuesday morning after his miss of the season contender for Tottenham in their demolition job at Stoke.

Alli had already scored and Spurs were 2-0 up when he hit the post with the goal at his mercy midway through the second half on Monday night.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino reacted by slumping to his knees in the dugout and pounding the turf in frustration.

Alli went on to add a second with a superbly struck volley to help Tottenham to an outstanding 4-0 win and keep alive their Premier League title hopes.

But the 20-year-old England international has subsequently been taking stick from his team-mates for the failure to score an open goal.

It began as soon as he walked into the dressing room, with Eric Dier showing him a clip of his miss on Twitter.

“It’s one of those moments and I don’t know how I missed it,” Alli said to Sky Sports after the match. “Thankfully I scored two and we won. Hopefully it will be forgotten, but I’m sure it won’t be.

“Eric’s already got on to me about it as soon as I walked in, so I’m sure there will be more to come.

“He just showed me a video that someone sent him on Twitter so I’m sure I’ll get a lot more stick for it.”

Dier, 22, followed up on Tuesday morning by copying Alli into a Twitter post with a YouTube link of the younger man’s hashed scoring attempt at Stoke.

Despite his missed open goal, Alli lifted his goal tally in the Premier League for the season to 10, second only to leading scorer Harry Kane, who has scored 24 times in the competition.

In other Tottenham news, the Londoners have been given a major transfer boost ahead of the summer window.
