Outspoken pundit and former Liverpool man Stan Collymore claimed that Everton forward Wayne Rooney’s legs had gone during their victory over Stoke on Saturday.

The Toffees ran out 1-0 victors in their Premier League opening match at Goodison Park against the Midlands outfit.

The single goal did in fact come from Rooney just before half time with the 31-year-old returning to Everton in perfect fashion.

However, one spectator was not impressed by the overall display of the former England international and that was Collymore, who insisted on his personal Twitter account that Rooney’s legs had gone and that it was just as well that he had scored with his head.

Rooney started off in the Everton academy, making his debut in 2002 at the age of just 16.

He then went on to earn a massive £25.6million move to Manchester United in the summer of 2004, where he spent 13 years, winning the Premier League title five times as well the Champions League and Europa League.

The experienced attacker will now be hoping that a goal scoring start for Everton in the league will be a sign of further success in the future, as he looks to prove pundits like Collymore wrong as well as the aim of making England’s World Cup squad next summer.
