Stan Collymore believes that Christian Benteke can be a great player when he’s the focal point of a team’s attack.

The BBC reported that the 25-year-old striker will depart Liverpool after Crystal Palace reached an agreement on Thursday to sign Benteke for a fee of £27million plus add-ons.

According to Sky Sports the deal is likely to go through after the forward completes a medical with the south London outfit on Friday.

Despite enduring a difficult spell with Liverpool, Collymore regards Benteke as a potential matchwinner.

The 26-time Belgium international is set to be sold after dropping down the Liverpool pecking order, with Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Danny Ings and even playmaker Roberto Firmino all considered ahead of him in the battle for a forward role.

The striker scored 49 goals in 101 appearances during his time at Villa, but that form dipped after his big-money move to Anfield, which saw him net on ten occasions in 42 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Benteke is expected to straight into Alan Pardew’s side with Connor Wickham the club’s only senior option up front.

In other Liverpool transfer news, their former midfielder has revealed the circumstances behind his move.
