Stan Collymore has confidently told Aston Villa supporters on Twitter that the “City is ours!” ahead of their showdown with rivals Birmingham on Sunday afternoon.

The teams are set to clash at St Andrews, with recently appointed Villa boss Steve Bruce returning to his old stomping ground.

The Championship duo will meet for the first time in the second-tier in nearly three decades, as they look to earn the first bragging rights of the campaign.

Outspoken pundit Collymore played for Villa over a three-year period, following his big-money move from Liverpool in 1997.

And the former striker was in an upbeat mood on his personal Twitter account ahead of the second City derby.

Former Liverpool man Collymore made 54 appearances for the Villans scoring nine goals during the nineties, before enjoying spells at Bradford and Leicester City.

Villa last played the Blues in a League Cup fixture last season, with Tim Sherwood’s side coming out as 1-0 winners at Villa Park.

They now meet at St Andrews in the second-tier, with Villa in 16th place on 17 points, while Gary Rowett’s side are one place off a play-off spot.

In other Aston Villa team news, supporters on Twitter provide mixed views that striker Gabby Agbonlahor could return for the Birmingham fixture.
