Stan Collymore believes that Premier League clubs are miles behind the elite Champions League clubs after Arsenal succumbed to a 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
The former England international said on his personal Twitter account that despite all the money that English clubs have, their performances in Europe appear to be getting worse and worse.
Arsenal were hammered by Bayern in the second half after the scores were level at 1-1 at the break. Alexis Sanchez’s away goal will probably mean little as goals from Arjen Robben, Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and a Thiago Alcantara brace dented Arsene Wenger’s hopes of making the quarter finals.
“As the Premier League billions go up, the league quality and European performances go down,” Collymore said in a tweet.

The only other two English teams in the competition are Manchester City and Leicester who play Monaco and Sevilla respectively next week.
Tottenham were dumped out of the group stage of the Champions League and begin their Europa League campaign alongside Manchester United on Thursday night.
Spurs play Belgian club Gent while United welcome French side St. Etienne to Old Trafford.
Collymore played for a number of clubs during his career including Liverpool, Aston Villa, Leicester and Nottingham Forest.
The controversial 46-year-old picked up three caps for England during the mid-1990s.
