Liverpool played out two draws with the Gunners last season as the clubs could not be separated in their two league meetings.
The Merseyside club have only won one of their last 10 matches against Arsenal and the manager Jurgen Klopp will be aiming to overturn that record.
Klopp has been active in the transfer window and could hand new signing Sadio Mane his Liverpool debut, but is facing several injury difficulties for the match.
First team options Lucas Leiva, Joe Gomez and Mamadou Sakho will miss out through injury, while the management will make late decisions on Daniel Sturridge (hip) and James Milner (foot).
Arsenal are facing their own injury concerns with inexperienced pair Rob Holding and Calum Chambers expected to line up in the heart of the defence, following long-term injuries to Gabriel Paulista and Per Mertesacker.
Arsene Wenger confirmed that senior defender Laurent Koscielny will not feature against Liverpool as he is still returning to full fitness after his involvement in Euro 2016 with France.
In other Liverpool team news, Klopp has identified the only way the club will achieve success this season.
