Stan Collymore has stated the four reasons why Liverpool will miss out on Premier League glory and why Manchester City will lift the English crown.

Broadcaster Collymore believes the strength of the club’s first XI, squad depth, whether or not they have a 25-goal season striker and an ability to keep clean sheets means the Reds will be pipped to first spot in May.

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently top the league table with 26 points from 11 games after they thrashed Watford 6-1 on Sunday.

The Merseyside club have started the season in scintillating fashion by scoring a league high of 30 goals in 11 games which is four more than their nearest rivals.

But former Reds striker Collymore believes Pep Guardiola’s City will lift the title at the end of the season as he told Liverpool and Chelsea fans how he rated their teams’ chances of lifting the trophy.

“Despite two fantastic performances from your side over the weekend, I still think you’ll be battling it out for a Champions League spot come May but not for the Premier League crown,” Collymore wrote in his Mirror column.

“You have to look at the strength of a club’s first XI, squad depth, whether or not they have a 25-goal-season striker and an ability to keep clean sheets.

“I considered all those factors when I went for City before a ball had been kicked and I’ve seen nothing to change my mind.”

The five-time European champions have not lifted an English league title since Anfield legend Kenny Daglish led them to glory in the 1989/90 season.

After the international break Liverpool will travel to Southampton for a league clash, then they will host Sunderland, before rounding the month off by taking on Leeds in the EFL Cup.
