Stan Collymore has reiterated on Twitter that he would “bite your hand off” if Aston Villa were offered sixth position in the Championship table at the end of this season.

Roberto Di Matteo’s side have drawn six out of their last seven games, including a 1-1 draw against Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle side on Saturday evening.

Former Villa striker and boyhood fan Collymore was critical of the side’s mindset and urged them to be more “aggressive”, as he stated that he would be happy to see them finish in a play-off place.

When Collymore was asked by a supporter, if he is getting worried by Villa’s performance, he provided this response:

“Always said in pre-season, I’d bite your hand off for 6th,” Collymore wrote in his personal Twitter account. “That still stands. Not direct or aggressive enough, although some good signings.”

Villa moved up to one place to 17th after the point against Newcastle, with Di Matteo’s side having picked up nine points from their opening nine games.

The Midlands side have not picked up a victory since the 3-0 triumph against Rotherham in August, with Villa travelling to Barnsley on Tuesday night.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side lost 2-0 away at Brighton on Saturday afternoon, with the Yorkshire club notching up 15 points from their opening nine games as they sit in seventh place.
