Football Insider names the Newcastle player who has been the biggest disappointment of the year for 2016.
Ayoze Perez has failed to deliver the goods for Newcastle this year, both in the Premier League and the Championship, and as a result he is the biggest disappointment for 2016.
The 23-year-old was part of the Magpies relegation last season, with Perez contributing just six goals as his side recorded just nine wins from 38 games in England’s top-flight.
The biggest disappointment of Perez’ year has been his form in the Championship, the versatile attacker has not been able to stamp his authority in the league, despite his side sitting top of the table.
He has scored three goals and provided the same number of assists in 16 league games, whilst summer signing Dwight Gayle has notched up 17 goals.
The performances of the team in the Premier League would go down to being a collective issue, but when your team is performing well, you expect the likes of Perez to deliver.
Benitez would be better of selling the Spaniard when the January transfer window opens next month as it will allow the north east club to buy more valuable players for the squad.
Newcastle sit in the top two, nine points clear of the rest of the pack, as they are on course for instant promotion.
But selling Perez next month and purchasing a better squad player would boost their chances significantly of returning to the promise land.
In the latest Newcastle news, supporters on Twitter react with panic as key man ruled out for five games.
