Dean Sturridge is convinced that Christian Benteke will not be at Liverpool next season.
The former Derby striker and uncle of Liverpool spearhead Daniel believes Benteke will move to another club in the forthcoming transfer window.
Benteke has had a disappointing debut season at Anfield following his £32.5million move from Aston Villa last summer and there is a growing expectation that he could leave the club after just one year, with West Ham among the clubs who have expressed an interest.
Benteke started only his second Premier League match since January on Sunday as a second-string Liverpool side ended their domestic campaign with a 1-1 draw at West Brom.
The big guns, including Sturridge’s nephew, were not even in the matchday 18 as Jurgen Klopp made 11 changes to the team that drew against Chelsea in midweek and wrapped his key men in cotton wool ahead of next Wednesday’s Europa League final.
“I can’t see Benteke staying at Liverpool,” Sturridge said on Sunday as he commentated on the Merseysiders’ draw against West Brom for US network NBC. “He will get his move next season. He doesn’t seem to fit into what the manager wants from his strikers.”
Benteke has scored 10 goals for Liverpool this season, including a creditable nine in the Premier League, but the Belgian has been a fringe player in the second half of the campaign despite lengthy injury absences suffered by fellow strikers Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings.
In other Liverpool transfer news, West Brom are said to be closely monitoring an attacker at the club.
