Mario Suarez isis set to undergo a Watford medical after agreeing a move from Fiorentina, Football Insider sources understand.

The midfielder has finalised the terms of a three-and-a-half-year contract and the two clubs have agreed a fee of around £4million.

A source close to the situation has told Football Insider that Suarez is due to arrive in the UK on Wednesday night and travel to Vicarage Road on Thursday morning to complete the transfer.

Quique Sanchez Flores sanctioned a move for Suarez after the Serie A club indicated they were open to the 28-year-old leaving in the January window.

Suarez has made only eight starts for Fiorentina this season, and 13 appearances in total, after his £10.5million switch from Atletico Madrid last summer.

The Spain international has the pedigree to slot straight in to the Watford midfield. He has won three caps for his country and was a key figure under Diego Simeone before his departure from Atletico, where he made 183 appearances, after five years.
