Newcastle have completed the signing of forward Daryl Murphy – and Sunderland fans have been quick to react on Twitter to the signing of their former player.

Newcastle announced on their club website that 33-year-old Murphy has become the latest signing at St. James’ Park, joining on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Ipswich.

Rafa Benitez has now completed 10 signings this summer and outspent all of his Championship rivals by some distance.

Murphy previously played for Newcastle’s fierce rivals Sunderland between 2005 to 2010 and featured in 122 games, scoring 14 goals.

The Sunderland fans have been quick on Twitter to mock their rivals for the signing of Murphy.

Here are a selection of the messages:

Murphy has become a proficient scorer and the 23-time capped Republic of Ireland international has netted an impressive 67 goals in 225 appearances at Portman Road.

The striker has played four times for Ipswich in the new campaign, providing two assists without scoring.

Murphy will now compete with senior strikers Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez for a starting role.

In other Newcastle transfer news, they are set to submit a bid for a Premier League midfielder who has a £20million price tag.
