Steve Bruce has emerged as a leading contender to replace Roberto Di Matteo at Aston Villa – and supporters on Twitter overwhelmingly do not want the 55-year-old anywhere near the club.
The Sun claimed on Saturday evening that Bruce is ready to step in at Villa Park if the club dispense with manager Di Matteo, who was only appointed during the summer.
It is said that Bruce is keen on the job even though he once managed arch-rivals Birmingham and he would unlikely to be a popular appointment with the majority of the fanbase.
Villa supporters urged owner Tony Xia not to make the decision of appointing Bruce as manager.
One fan stated that he hopes Di Matteo picks up points, with the Italian without a win since August, after a 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Saturday.
Another supporter reacted angrily to the news of the Bruce link by pointing out that he is a former Blues manager.
Others followed up by stating Bruce is the last person they want in the Villa Park dugout and cited former Villa boss Alex McLeish as an example not to appoint Bruce.
The Midlands side are 17th in the Championship table with nine points from nine games, having picked up one win, six draws and two losses.
