Swansea have turned down a £10million bid from Everton for centre-back Ashley Williams, according to a report.
Sky Sports claim on their website that Swansea have rejected the approach for their club captain, who turns 32 later this month and is contracted until 2018.
Ronald Koeman’s side have been keeping tabs on the Williams for some time after accepting they will lose John Stones to Manchester City this summer.
Wales Online claimed on Monday night that Williams was set to complete a £10million move to Goodison Park within 48 hours but that is now in doubt after reports of the rejected bid.
“Ashley Williams is an important part of our squad and club and we are not looking to sell him,” a Swansea spokesman told Sky Sports. “Therefore we have turned down the offer currently on the table.”
The Liberty Stadium’s star player developed himself into an integral figure for his club last season and helped Wales as they reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016.
He has two years remaining on his current deal and is now widely regarded as one of the most reliable defenders in the Premier League, starting all but two of Swansea’s 38 league matches last season.
The 31-year-old has been at the Liberty Stadium for the last eight years and is captain of both his club and country.
In other Everton transfer news, they are set to lose out on midfielder target as he opts for a move to Premier League rivals.
