TalkSPORT pundit Micky Quinn is convinced that the signing of Virgil van Dijk would secure Liverpool the Premier League title.

The Sun reported on Monday evening that the Reds were preparing a double swoop for the centre-back alongside young prospect Sam McQueen.

However, it was the link to the 25-year-old Holland international which excited fans following his commanding display against Jurgen Klopp’s side on Saturday.

Now Liverpool-born former footballer Quinn believes that van Dijk would net the Merseyside club their first Premier League title.

“I think he could be the missing link for Liverpool in regards of winning the Premier League if they sign him,” told Quinn to Tuesday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, as quoted by the TalkSPORT website.

“You’ve seen him at Celtic and at Southampton. He’s a football player, an aggressive centre-back, and he just goes from strength to strength every time I see him.

“I think he would be a great signing for Liverpool. Money no object. And he could seal them the Premier League if they sign him.”

Van Dijk has become one of the best defenders in the Premier League following his £13million move from Celtic in the summer of 2015.

However, he would come at a costly price having only signed a new six-year deal at Southampton in May.

The defender has featured in 16 encounters for the Saints in all competitions this season and he hasn’t failed to start a Premier League match since moving to the south coast.

Given the Reds’ weakness at the back having conceded 14 goals in their 12 fixtures in the league it could be argued he would prove to be a worthwhile signing, as they sit in second place and one point behind league leaders Chelsea.

In other Liverpool news, this senior player has suffered a season-ending injury.
