TalkSport have ranked Tottenham summer signing Victor Wanyama as the ninth best purchase in the previous window for the Premier League.
The well established radio station named 15 players who all made summer moves to, or in England’s top flight.
Wanyama, 25, was was named ninth in the list, finishing behind the likes of Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante, Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Shkodran Mustafi of Arsenal.
However, he was the only Spurs player to make the list in a summer which included the signings of striker Vincent Jassen and £30million Moussa Sissoko.
The combative midfielder made the £11million switch to rejoin manager Mauricio Pochettino in the summer from Southampton and TalkSport believe he has strengthened the team.
“Wanyama has clearly strengthen Spurs,” wrote the station on their website. “He’s further solidified an already strong midfield for Mauricio Pochettino, tirelessly breaking up play and popping up with a couple of important goals. The former Saints man is a regular in the side, starting all 17 of their games in the Premier League. It’s at the other end of the field that Tottenham’s problems lie.”
Wanyama has proven to be a pivotal part of Tottenham’s strong defensive unit this campaign, making the defensive midfield position his own.
He has played in 23 matches for Spurs in all competitions this season and has seemingly built up a strong partnership with Moussa Dembele.
The Spurs back line has kept nine clean sheets with Wanyama in the team and the former Celtic star has become a very solid addition.
His next match will see him return to former club Southampton at St Marys with Tottenham in fifth and the Saints just behind in seventh.
